Shark Tale: Minor Peewees Feast on Opponents at Northshore Challenge Cup
The Minor Peewee Ice Sharks went into their first tournament hungry and feasted on a buffet of opposing teams over the course of the Northshore Challenge Cup tournament in Aylmer/St. Thomas on April 27-29th. For the appetizer...

the Ice Sharks were served the S.W. Elite team on early Friday afternoon. This team, comprised primarily of players from the Sun County and Windsor AAA teams, was not particularly to the Ice Sharks' liking as they lost their opening game 3-1.

The Ice Sharks returned for the main course later in the evening and were served up the first of two helpings of the Northshore Hitmen. The Ice Sharks played the Hitmen - Red team first and won 6-4 and then came back Saturday morning and swallowed the Hitmen - Black team 6-1.

Saturday evening the Ice Sharks had their first taste of the Edge Hockey squad. They were a tough team to chew on but the Ice Sharks eventually munched them 2-1. The Ice Sharks were then served a second helping of the Edge Hockey on Sunday in the semi-finals. In what was a repeat of their previous match-up, the Ice Sharks got another 2-1 win.

The final championship game was Sunday afternoon and, as luck would have it, the Ice Sharks were given another taste of the first team they faced in the tournament - S.W. Elite. After feasting mightly on the previous four teams, the Ice Sharks were slower off the mark in this game and found themselves down 3-0 by the end of the second period. However, by that point they had worked off enough of their previous meals and with the encouragement of Coach Matt it was a shiver of hungry sharks who took to the ice in the third period. The Ice Sharks tore two goals off of the Elite but unfortunately the game ended in a 3-2 loss before the Ice Sharks could finish their meal.

The Ice Sharks honed their hunting skills in this first tournament and look ready to continue to play "Ice Shark hockey" in their tournament coming up in Sarnia on May 4-6th.
