Minor Peewee Ice Sharks Advance in Tournament Play for 2nd Consecutive Week
The Minor Peewee Ice Sharks had another successful tournament by advancing beyond the preliminary round robin portion of a tournament for the second straight week. The Ice Sharks participated in the 19th Annual Bluewater Sharks Tournament on May 4-6, 2007 in Sarnia.

Points throughout the tournament were awarded by a combination of winning periods and winning games (win a period = 1 point, tie a period = ½ point, win a game = 2 points, tie a game = 1 point).

The Ice Sharks opened the tournament with a game Friday morning against the Pro-Tips team based out of London. The Ice Sharks battled throughout the game but, after an empty net goal, came up short losing 3-1.

Next up the Ice Sharks faced the Michigan Travelers in a mid-afternoon game that saw the Ice Sharks cruise to a 6-2 win.

Saturday saw the Ice Sharks face the Southpointe team from the Pittsburgh area. In a well-played, physical game, the Ice Sharks won 2-1. It would prove to be an important win since through the points accumulated the Ice Sharks would go into their fourth and final preliminary game tied with the Northshore Hitmen for the final playoff spot.

With the Hitmen having 9½ points after playing their last game, the Ice Sharks needed only to secure a ½ point in their final game against Compuware to advance. The Ice Sharks came out strong in the first period; scoring the only goal to win the period and ensure their advancement to Sunday’s quarter final game. Unfortunately, the Ice Sharks were not as strong in the remaining two periods and, even with great goaltending, lost to Compuware 4-2.

In their quarter final game early Sunday morning, the Ice Sharks faced another American team, Victory Honda from Plymouth, MI. Although the Ice Sharks carried the play in the first period, they found themselves down 1-0 at the end of the period. A costly 2 minute stretch in the second period saw the Ice Sharks give up three additional goals. In what was a tough, character-building contest, the Ice Sharks lost 4-1.

The Ice Sharks currently have a 6-5-0 record and look forward to their final tournament this coming weekend – the OTTF Spring Classic.
