99 Ice Sharks Competitive at Spring Shootout
The 1999 Maitland Ice Sharks showed their teeth at the Spring Shootout this past weekend in Burlington. The Sharks started the tourney on Thursday with a 4-2 win over Pro Hockey (Pavey). Later on Thursday, the Sharks defeated Pro Hockey (Peca) 5-4 on a last minute marker from Noah Kuno.
Friday morning saw the Sharks play the World Class Allstars. The game was back and forth with the Sharks taking a 5-3 lead into the 3rd period. The All Stars scored 3 times in the final 4 minutes to hand the young Sharks a tough defeat. In the final round robin game against Regional Express Gold, the team came out flat and were overwhelmed by a strong Regional team 10-0.
Overall, the 1st tournament was a positive learning experience. The 1999 Ice Sharks showed they can compete with many of the top Spring teams. Next action for this team is at the OTTF Spring Classic in Mississauga May 11-13.
