99 Sharks face tough competition at OTTF Spring Classic
The 1999 Ice Sharks gained some valuable experience this past weekend at the OTTF Spring Classic. The Toronto based tournament brings top Spring teams from across North America. In the first game, the Sharks played a highly skilled Boston Junior Bruins team. The Sharks battled hard and drew a number of penalties against the aggressive Bruins. In the end, the Sharks lost to the eventual tournament winners 9-1.

The second game saw the Sharks play World Class Allstars. The same teams played to an exciting match the week before at the Burlington Spring shootout. The Sharks carried much of the play but found themselves behind 2-1 late in the game. With the Sharks pressing for the equalizer, the All Stars potted two late goals to win 4-1.

Saturday saw the young Sharks battle Pro Hockey. The final score ended 10-3 for Pro Hockey, however, the Sharks played some of their finest hockey of the season, outchancing Pro Hockey for the first half of the game. The final game pitted the Sharks against STL Elite, a team from St. Louis. STL Elite featured NHLers Keith Thachuk and Dallas Drake as coaches of a hard working team. The Sharks held a 2-1 lead going into the third but could not hold on for a victory.

The 1999 Shark coaches are very proud of all the players for their terrific effort. While the team did not win a game, the tough competition faced should help the kids in preparation for the final tournament in Sarnia, June 1-3.
