Minor Peewees Take Home Silver
In a game eerily similar to the Canada Russian game played earlier in the afternoon, the Maitland Ice Shark Minor Peewee AAA Team took home a silver medal in the Top Gun Tournament played on the long weekend in Toronto.

To advance to the final game the Ice Sharks played four solid games including three in the round robin and one semi-final game.

The first game matched the Ice Sharks against the Port Huron Flags on Friday night.Tyler Hak opened the scoring with a tip in on a shot from Carter Stewart.  Keegan McLelland also drew an assist.  Eric Ryan made the save of the game when he robbed a Flag shooter early in the second period.  Logan Lammerant then scored on the power play from Taylor Moir and McLelland to make the score 2-0.  Not to be outdone, the Flags scored two before the second was over to tie the game.  Lammerant scored his second of the game from a gorgeous pass by McLelland and some solid work from Moir.  The Flags tied the game once more but Moir bagged the winner from Keigan Goetz and Drew Gross.  Keegan McLelland playing his best game of the season was named Game MVP.

The second game was against the host Top Gun Team.  There weren't many goals to be had in this game as both goalies, including Daniel Dekoning for the Ice Sharks made some huge saves throughout.  The lone goal of the game came on a rebound which was pounded in by Payton Dunlop after a great rush by Gross.  Game MVP was Dekoning.

Game three was against the Ice Sharks old nemesis the Zone Training.  The Zone came out strong in the first scoring 3 goals to the Ice Sharks one.  The lone Ice Shark marker was netted by Gross shorthanded from Moir and Andrew Gooding.  The second period saw the Ice Sharks come alive with two goals.  Hak popped one from Brody Tenpas right off the draw and Brett Dunsbier drilled a bullet into the top shelf from Hak and Tenpas.  The Zone answered with four minutes left in the third and again into a empty net.  The Game MVP for the Ice Sharks was Drew Gross.

The semi-final on Sunday was a rematch against the Port Huron Flags.  Once again Dekoning came up huge early in the game before the Flags slipped one by. The Ice Sharks were a determined group and even being down two players couldn't hold them back. Gross went solo while playing 4 on 4 to score the first and then Hak, Moir and Lammerant played a gritty down low shift while popping the second.  Tenpas then scored the lone second period tally with an assist to Dunsbier.  Moir continued in the third with a top shelf marker from Lammerant and Hak.  Lammerant finished off the scoring for the Ice Sharks when he was tripped on a breakaway with the goalie pulled.  The assist on the play went to Dunsbier.  The Flags did get one late on the Power Play but the final score was 5-2 Ice Sharks.  Dekoning was again named the Game MVP.

The final game pitted the Ice Sharks against the pesky boys from the Zone.  Like the Canada Russia game played earlier in the day, the Ice Sharks went up big as they scored the first three goals of the game.  After a scoreless first Hak scored the first of the game from Dunsbier.  The second was scored by Tenpas who displayed some ever gentle soccer skills with a slight redirect on a Dunsbier shot.  Dunsbier then made the score 3-0 on an Old School top self backhand with assists from Tenpas and Hak.  The Zone popped one late in the second to give them hope for the third.  Like the Russians the Zone came out storming in the third as they scored twice to force Overtime.  It was early in the Overtime that the Zone scored to win the gold medal.  Game MVP for the Ice Sharks was Brody Tenpas.

This season was the most successful ever for the 96 Ice Sharks as they went 6-6-2 with four of the losses by only one goal.  A special thanks to the coaching staff of Shaun Peet, Kevin Meriam, Brian McMurren, trainer Darren Moir and manager Mark Dunsbier who showed the kids that the game of hockey is won and lost as team and not as a bunch of individuals. Thanks Again!
