Excellent Effort & Showing for 99 Ice Sharks!
As our team prepared to play in the Regional Express Spring Showdown this past weekend, one thing was for certain; in order for our team to have any success versus the high level of competition, we would require a strong work ethic from our entire TEAM; and that is exactly what they provided in each of our games resulting in a 3rd place finish at the 13 Team Tournament.

The coaching staff would again like to congratulate all the players for their fantastic play, resulting in our TEAM going undefeated (4-0) throughout round robin play, only to lose 4-2 (Empty Netter with 10 seconds left) to the power house Regional Gold in the semi-final Sunday morning. Players & Parents should be proud of this excellent showing.

Game 1 had us matched up vs. Xcelerate Hockey. We never trailed in our opening tilt prevailing 5-2, our strong effort rewarded us with some good momentum leading up to our “rematch” with our friends from Regional Express Blue on Friday PM. Possible payback seemed to fire up the opposition, as it was 2-0 for the wrong team before our “back up sticks” were set up behind our bench. However the kids stuck to the game plan and never panicked, outscoring our opponents 8-1 the rest of the way, securing our second victory by the score of 8-3. Saturday morning meant Game 3 vs. Pro Hockey, and we again fell behind to a tune of 4-1, in fact, we trailed 5-3 with less than 4 minutes to play, but indifferent to how we handled being down in our 1st tourney of the year, these kids learned from that experience and “refused to lose”, potting 4 goals in the final 3 ? minutes, to win 7-5. This was an outstanding effort by our team that allowed us to remain undefeated at 3-0 heading into our final game vs. The Niagara Vipers. We continued our strong offensive output and work ethic, propelling us to a 13-0 victory and a 1st place finish in our division at 4-0!

Sunday morning meant a semi-final date with the top seed in the tourney, Regional Gold. This was a true test and challenge for our talented club, and they did not disappoint anyone, providing Regional Gold all they could handle, in a 4-2 defeat. This game was still up for grabs until 10 seconds left when Regional Gold cemented their win with an empty netter. Back and forth these teams went, with Gold winning the first period 2-0. Our excellent compete level continued in the second period, resulting in a 1-1 tie in the middle frame. We left it all out on the ice during the final stanza, scoring to make it 3-2 with approx. 4 minutes left, and if not for a “pinky toe” save in the final 2 minutes, would have battled into OT.

The coaching staff was very pleased, proud and encouraged by our teams’ performance. We battled all weekend, including 2 come from behind wins! We learned and improved upon, our results from the previous week in Toronto, and really applied the practice themes that we worked on Thursday night towards our play this past weekend….job well done boys! The players had a bunch of fun, as did the staff. We now rest our wounds, reflect on a great weekend and look forward to our next ice time on the 21st of May.

From the Staff, Parents and Players of our 99 Ice Sharks, we would like to congratulate our 97 Ice Shark Team & Staff for their excellent showing as well this past weekend, making it to the finals! Go Ice Sharks Go!
