SHARKS LEARN THE HARD WAY.........THERE ARE BIGGER FISH IN THE SEA!
The 01 Sharks participated in their first tournament this past weekend and found it be to be quite a learning experience.

The Sharks lost all four of their games but seemed to have learned a little from each game which they will be able to build on for the next couple of tournaments.
On Friday the Sharks were matched against the Regional Express Gold team.  The game was very lopsided and ended up with a 11-2 final score.  The Sharks goal getters were Braeden Holloway unassisted and Eric Vander Eyk assisted by Sam Dupuis and Braeden Holloway.
After losing their first game the Sharks were determined to do better their second game.  However their opponent for this game would prove to be even better.  The Jr. Cougars Platinum team completely dominated the play.  Despite the fact the Sharks were getting hammered on the score board many of the fans commented on how great it was to watch the Cougars play as they demonstrated exceptional hockey skills for a team of that age group.  The Sharks did manage to snipe one goal by Sheldon Pryce assisted by Kendon Zettel and Carter McLlwain.  During these last two games net minder Bobby McLachlan faced at least 60 shots a game.  He made many saves and deserves a huge pat on the back for keeping his composure in two such high scoring games.  Way to go Bobby!
After a little team bonding in the pool at the motel and a few games of mini sticks the Sharks were determined to play their next two games on Saturday with the real score showing on the score board.
Their first opponent on Saturday was the Niagra Vipers.  Unfortunately the Sharks fell behind quickly and were losing 5-0 after the first period.  However, they didn't give up and their determination would pay off as they quickly closed the gap to 5-2.  Goal scorers were Sheldon Pryce assisted by Kyle Stanbury and Eric Vander Eyk unassisted.  Yet the team could not seem to rally behind these two goals and at the end of the second the score would be 9-2.  The third period would be a little more promising as the Sharks managed to tie the period.  Goal scorer in the third was Kyle Stanbury assisted by Sheldon Pryce.  Final score 10-3.
The Sharks final game of the tournament was against the Buffalo Prospects.  The Sharks would finally give their fans something to cheer about as they would score the first goal in this game.  Riley Kuepfer scored this goal   unassisted.  Buffalo returned the favour at the 3:07 mark of the first.  Then Sheldon Pryce gave the Sharks the lead again, as he netted one assisted by Riley Kuepfer and Kyle Stanbury.  Buffalo would score the only goal in the second to end that period with a 2-2 tie.  The third period would see lots of end to end action unfortunately Buffalo scored at the 6:55 mark to take the lead.  Buffalo scored again at the 3:19 mark to make the score 4-2.  However the Sharks weren't done yet as they would "bite" at the 2:21 mark with the goalie pulled.  Riley Kuepfer scored his second of the game assisted by Eric Vander Eyk and Carter McLlwain.  The fans were on the edge of their seats but not for long as Buffalo would score two quick empy net goals to end the game 6-3.  This was a hard fought game by all.
Despite the unsucessfulness on the score board this weekend the Sharks need to be commended for holding their heads high.  The team is starting to bond both on and off the ice which will benefit them in the next two tournaments.
Way to go Sharks!!
