THE 01'S TAKE THE "A" DIVISION TITLE
After a great start on Friday the Sharks were in tuff for game 3 and 4 , but finished the tourney strong with a great team effort!

In game 1  vs the Brockville Ice Hogs the Sharks were a bit hesitant at the start but overall they had a good game getting rid of a few jitters. This game was back and forth when Eric Vander Eyk opened the scoring at 7:07 of the 1st   assisted by Kyle Stanbury  and Jack Lucas. Brockville would tie the game at 10:24 of the 2nd  there would be no more scoring in this one with Bobby Mclachlan shutting the door to preserve the 1-1 tie. This was Brockvilles  4th tourney already,  Sharks  2nd game - great start guys.

Game 2 would see a little more offence  against Extreme.  Extreme would score first  early in the game ,  but at 5:05 of the first  Parker Miller would tie the game assisted by  Riley Kuepfer. 3 min later Extreme takes the lead again. With the Sharks forechecking hard  Sheldon Pryce would find the back of the net assisted by Riley Kuepfer and Kyle Stanbury.  Heading into the 2nd   tied at 2 Extreme would again take the lead  but 30 sec. later Jack Lucas  scores to tie the game at 3  assisted by Eric Vander Eyk and Kyle Stanbury . Then with 1:28 left in the first Kyle Stanbury would score to give the Sharks a 4-3 lead  assisted by Riley Kuepfer and Sage Buchanan. At 10:10 of the 3rd  Eric would score to put the Sharks up by 2  assisted by Sage Buchanan and Kyle Stanbury. Extreme would get 1 more  to close the gap but Eric puts one in the empty net to finish them off winning 6-4. Sage Buchanan would pick up another assist. Between the pipes for the Sharks this game was Jake Abbott who stood in there strong with an excellant performance.

After day 1  the Sharks head into Sat. with a win and a tie. Up against Lake Shore Thunder , a team who has been together for 3 years , it showed as they passed the puck well and played there positions well. The Sharks would not give up though as they found themselves down 4-0 after 1. In the Second the Sharks started skating and forechecking stronger and finally  Kyle Stanbury would rip one top shelf  to put the Sharks on the score board, with assists going to Sheldon Pryce and Riley Kuepfer , nice passes boys.
The game would remain 4-1 until the 3rd when Lakeshore would pot 2 more for the 6-1 victory over the Sharks
Sunday here we come!
Game 4 of the round robin play against Ontario North would almost be a mirror of game 3. Not that the Sharks can't skate with these teams , positional play just killed us. Ontario North were fast and furious  scoring first with 2 min left in priod 1.  Keeping the game close down 1-0  Ontario North would  get 2 more in the 2nd taking a 3-0 lead into the final period. At 7:36 Ont. North scores again to take a 4-0 lead but the Sharks keep working hard finally Jack Lucas gets the puck up to Kyle Stanbury sending him in all alone and makes no mistake putting the Sharks on the board.  That would be all as the game would end 5-1 for Ont. North. In games 3 and 4   our goalies Bobby Mclachlan and Jacob Abbott shared the duty seeing lots of rubber  making a lot of beauty saves.

This would put the Sharks in an "A" division final against the Spring Hawks.
After a team meeting and betting preparation for this game it pays off. Even though the Sharks went down 2-0 after the first , they were playing most of the game in SpringHawks end and we knew it was just a matter of time before we would score.
With all of our defence moving the puck well  Leah Herrfort  would find Sheldon Pryce at center ice who carried the puck just over the blue line and fired one into the top of the net to put the Sharks on the board. Just 30 sec. later the Sharks would bite again with Eric Vander Eyk found the top corner to tie the game at 2 after some more nice passing from Tanner Reid and Parker Miller.
2 min. later Riley Kuepfer would jamb 1 in after some great pressure around Spring Hawks net  assited by Jake Weston and Josh Bakker. Then Riley Kuepfer would strike again to put the Sharks up 4-2  assisted by Sheldon Pryce. Spring Hawks would add another at the end of the second to get within 1. 15 seconds into the third Spring Hawks would tie the game at 4. But the Sharks were not finished yet at 10:24 of the 3rd Riley Kuepfer would complete the hat trick  after some more nice passing from Kyle Stanbury and Brennan Long. This is not a misprint. Spring Hawks would tie the game at 5. With both teams working hard and only 2 minutes left here is a text book play by the Sharks - Leah Herrfort would fire the puck around the boards and  Tanner Reid in position on the wing makes no mistake getting the puck past the defender and up to Eric Vander Eyk sending him in on a 2 on 1 Eric  makes a perfect pass to Parker Miller sending him in all alone and Parker fires one top shelf to give the Sharks a 6-5 lead and  the "A" division title. Great job team!
The kids learned a lot in a short time this weekend and will just keep improving with each game.
