The Major Atoms played great in their opening tournament this past weekend winning Bronze and losing only to the eventual Champions and Finalists of the Canlan Spring Showdown.
The Ice Sharks started the tournament with a strong game against the York Region Rams. The Sharks were up 2-0 at one point but were not able to hold onto the lead the entire game. The Rams pressed hard and were able to tie the game in the 3rd period for a final score of 2-2.
Game 2 saw the Ice Sharks play a very good team from Toronto called Long Term Hockey. LTH ended up with a 4-2 win helping them end the round robin tied for 1st place. They would end up playing in the finals and finishing second place.
Game 3 was played against another very strong team from Northern Ontario called the North Stars. The North Stars played a very fast and physical game beating the Sharks by a score of 5-0. The North Stars also tied for 1st place after the round robin and ended up winning the tournament beating LTH 3-2 in the final.
The boys had their best game of the tournament in game 4 against Impact Hockey from Toronto. The final result was a 5-3 win. The Ice Sharks dominated most of the game hitting five posts and missing a couple wide open nets throughout the game.
Game 5 was the Bronze Championship game. The Ice Sharks were determined to win and played a very strong game against the Ottawa Valley Spartans. The Ice Sharks controlled most of the game as they outworked and outhustled their opponents to a final score of 5-2 winning the Bronze!!
