Tykes Prepare for St. Mary's Tournament
Our 2004 Tykes began their spring hockey careers with two exhibition games vs. the KW Ranger.
On April 10th KW travelled to Listowel. This was the first time our group was together. As the game progressed you could really see this group coming together. We were down 5-2 after the second period, but battled hard and won the third 2-1, to make it an exciting 6-4 game.
On April 17th we travelled to Baden for the back end of the home and home. Our boys from Exeter had Novice tryouts so we were down one line of forwards. There was no scoring in the first period. We worked hard , hitting a couple post, and created a lot of chances around their net but had no goals to show for it. After two periods we out shot them but were down 3-1 on the score board. It remained 3-1 until 5:00 minutes remaining in the game. At that point the short bench caught up to us, as K-W scored 4 unaswered goals in the last 5 minutes to make the final 7-1. The game finished 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled ice time which allowed for a shoot out at the end. We won the shoot out by 2 goals.
Our tournament schedule begins this weekend in St. Mary's, followed by the Toronto Cup next weekend. We have a great group of families involved with this team and look forward to a fun and exciting spring season.
