Minor Pee Wee’s Compete in Toronto Cup
The Minor Pee Wee’s played in the Toronto Cup this past weekend and won the Bronze division final. The boys improved each game and showed a lot of determination all weekend.

The Ice Sharks had a tough draw to open the tournament. The first two games were losses to the Open Ice Wings and the York Region Rams by scores of 4-1 and 3-1. These two teams ended up unbeaten in round robin play and played each other in the championship game with the Open Ice Wings winning 5-2. These two games were closer than they appear as Open Ice scored two third period goals to make the score 4-1 and the Rams scored late in the third period to make it 3-1. Brett Zabel scored the lone goal against the Wings with assists going to Hayden Coulter and Cody Camm. Connor Roberts scored from Austin Vanwyck against the York Region Rams.

The third game of the tournament was a very good game against the PSE Red Wings. The game was very fast and hard hitting. The Ice Sharks outplayed their opponents but had a disappointing end result as we lost the game 3-2. The winning goal was scored with no time remaining on the clock and also appeared to be an offside breakaway pass that ended up in the net after the rebound was directed in with a high stick. Tough break boys, you all played a great game! Connor Roberts scored from Bryce McFadden while being short handed 5 on 3 and Austin Vanwyck added a power play goal from Hayden Coulter.

Game 4 saw the Ice Sharks play Dynamo Harrow. Team Harrow was another undefeated team in round robin play. The Ice Sharks once again played a great game and came away with a 2-2 tie. The Ice Sharks took the lead on a goal by Connor Roberts in the first period. Team Harrow then took the lead by scoring the next two goals. Hayden Coulter would then tie the game on a goal assisted by Cody Camm and Brett Zabel.

The final game of the tournament was against the Erie Jr. Blades. The boys were determined not to let this game slip away from them. They played a very gritty game and came away winning the bronze final by a score of 2-0. Carson Hebner and Malachi Albrecht shared the shutout and Colton Atkins and Brodie Hoffele added goals with assists going to Hunter Zettler and Dean Sealey.

Although the record does not show it, the Minor Pee Wee’s played an excellent first tournament. A tough draw saw the boys face the three top teams in their four round robin games and played each team very hard. The team also improved it’s play each and every game and are now ready to compete in the Thunder Spring Spectacular tournament in Stratford this coming weekend.
Great weekend boys!
