Major Atom, 2007 (Maitland PEP Ice Sharks AAA Spring Hockey)

The initial game of our season was an eye opener for many of our players in terms of the intensity level required. Many good things were identified, the Ice Shark Minor Atoms are a team with grit, matching and often exceeding the aggressive play of their competitors. Tightening up our defensive zone play and some patience on the breakout should give our squad a better opportunity for success against Pro Tips in our tourny opener next week. All in all, a great start to the season.

In preparation for their first Spring tourney (St. Thomas Apr 28-30), the Major Atom Ice Sharks will play a two game exhibition series this weekend in Aylmer. At 12:00 p.m., the Sharks will tangle with Pro-Tips, followed by a 3:00 p.m. tilt with the Northshore Hitmen. Head Coach Todd Goetz has the team working very hard both on and off the ice. The two exhibition games will be a good test to evaluate the team for the Spring hockey season.

The Maitland Ice Shark 96 team had several players out for a pre-season skate with some 3 on 3 action recently that had the coaches itching to work with these high performance athletes. The players demonstrated a good foundation of skill and a love for the game. It was apparent that these athletes are ready and waiting for a challenging atmosphere which their spring hockey will provide. With a great selection of players already in place from across the zone the major atom roster should be finalized within the week and practices will commence immediately following the conclusion of the players ...
