‘02’s Ready to Begin 2013 Season
With a new Coaching Staff and a nearly completely revamped roster, the ’02 Ice Sharks team is ready to hit the ice. Team manager, Pat Newson is excited to announce that Port Elgin native George Condy will be serving as Head Coach for the upcoming season which begins on April 29th.

Condy is a former NCAA Academic All-American Track and XC runner while at Indiana State University and currently coaches the Golf, Cross Country and Track teams at Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin, where he is a senior Mathematics teacher. “We are very pleased to have George coaching this season. He brings with him a passion for excellence that will surely rub off on his players. George has had great success everywhere he has coached and we expect the same here with the ’02 Ice Sharks.”

In addition to the new coaching staff, the roster is nearly completely new with this year’s lineup including some of the best players from Grey, Bruce, Huron and Perth counties.  Returnees Jacob Condy (Saugeen Shores) and Max Newson (Blyth/Brussels) will be relied on to provide some veteran leadership to newcomers Mitchell Faust and Austin MacKinnon (Arran Elderslie), Owen Gionet and Mckenzie Stevens (BCH), Alex Coultes (Blyth/Brussels), Jordan Deelstra and Nicholas Hamilton (Listowel), Ethan Volmer (Ripley), Carter O’Leary (Saugeen Shores), Will Kazarian-Hodder and Matthew Weiler (Shallow Lake) and Josh Currie, Nicholas Garrett and Cory Rasmussen (TCDMHA). “It is our expectation that these 16 young men have the best hockey experience of their life this spring. It is our goal to provide them with quality development, excellent hockey experiences, and a whole lotta fun all while teaching them quality life lessons they can carry with them off the ice”, says Condy of his expectations for the season.

The ’02 Ice Sharks will be playing in two tournaments this spring playing in a minimum of 5 games in each tourney. The team first travels to Stratford/St. Marys over the  May 10th-12th weekend to compete in the 4th Annual HTA Thunder Spring Spectacular. The team then travels to Scarborough May 31st-June 2nd to play in the Canlan Classic Tournaments sponsored GTA Quest for the Cup.
