Major Peewee Ice Sharks have a successful First Tournament
The Major Peewee Ice Sharks had a successful showing at the Northshore Challenge Cup tournament April 25-27th as they advanced to the tournament semi-finals and ended the tournament with a 2-2-1 record.

Game #1 - Friday, 1:30 p.m. vs Northshore Hitmen - Black
The Ice Sharks got off to a great start in their first game as they scored in the first few minutes and then 2 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead. The Hitmen replied before the period was over to get two goals of their own to tie the game.

After a brief chat from Coach Matt between periods, the Ice Sharks quickly took control of the game by scoring three goals in the first three minutes of the second period. The Ice Sharks added another goal late in the period and the Hitmen replied with a solitary goal to end the period.

Ahead 6-3 going into the third period, the Ice Sharks didn't let the Hitmen get back in the game. The Ice Sharks added two more goals to win the game 8-3.

Game #2 - Friday, 8 p.m. vs Northshore Hitmen - Red
As good as the Ice Sharks had been in the earlier game, it looked like a completely different team that took to the ice that evening to play the Hitmen - Red team. The Ice Sharks got off to a horrible first period giving up two power play goals, two short-handed goals, and an even strength goal.

Behind 5-0 going into the second period, the Ice Sharks battled but just didn't seem to "click" they way that had in their earlier game. The Hitmen added another goal before the Ice Sharks were able to get on the scoreboard.

In the third period, the Ice Sharks got their second goal when they displayed a brief flash of the team play they had exhibited in the earlier game. The Hitmen, however, scored two more goals before the game ended to hand the Ice Sharks an 8-2 loss.

Game #3 - Saturday, 1 p.m. vs Chatham-Kent Coyotes
Stinging from their loss the night before, the Ice Sharks were determined to elevate their game. They were also disadvantaged with running a shorter bench as several Ice Sharks were absent. The remaining Ice Sharks proved equal to the task as the battled through a scoreless first period.

The second period was owned by the Ice Sharks as they scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-0 lead into the third period.

The third period was a repeat of the third period of the first game the day before as the Ice Sharks added two more goals and kept their opponent off the scoreboard in the third. The Ice Sharks defeated the Coyotes 6-0.

Game #4 - Saturday, 8:45 p.m. vs Demolition Dogs 95's
Once again the Ice Sharks found themselves with a shorter bench but managed to keep their energy level up. The Dogs scored first in the first period but the Ice Sharks replied two minutes later to tie the game. That would be the extent of the scoring in this closely played match as the second and third periods were scoreless and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Semi-final Game - Sunday, 11:35 a.m. vs Northshore Hitmen - Red
Finishing 3rd in the preliminary rounds allowed the Ice Sharks to advance to the semi-finals where they faced the team that had given them so much trouble on Friday night: the Northshore Hitmen - Red. The Ice Sharks were back at full strength and determined to play better than they had the first time they faced the Hitmen. Unfortunately, it was the Hitmen who got on the scoreboard early by scoring a goal in the first four minutes of the game.

Ahead 1-0 going into the second period, the Hitmen added two more goals before the Ice Sharks were able to reply with a goal of their own.

Although the Ice Sharks played well and had chances, the puck just didn't go into the net. After a scoreless third period, the Hitmen won the game 3-1 to advance to the finals.

Although disappointed at not advancing to the finals, the Ice Sharks played a much better game the second time against the Hitmen - Red and can build on their improving play as they prepare for their next tournament in Brantford - the Regional Spring Showdown.
