Major PeeWee, 2010 (Maitland PEP Ice Sharks AAA Spring Hockey)

The Ice Sharks participated in the Canlan Spring Showdown in Toronto, and drove home on Sunday with the AAA Division championship. Splitting games on both Friday and Saturday, set up Sunday morning's semi-final match against the Spartans.

The Ice Sharks were not able to sustain an attack on the visiting K-W Rangers, Saturday in Goderich.  The combination of a short handed Ranger bench, and a "try out - tired out" Ice Shark team, created a slow paced affair which resulted in a 4-2 Ranger win. Even the infamous "shark attack chant" heard after the second goal, was not enough to provide the motivation needed to spur on the team. Goaltending was solid at both ends of the ice, as Tyler Fassl & Aron Johnson and the Ranger goalie stood tall on many scoring opportunities. The Ice Sharks traveled to Walkerton to play the host Quick Feet team, and headed home with a convincing win.  With the Quick Feet team still in the process of picking their team, the Sharks endured a hard hitting contest and capitalized on their scoring opportunities.  Strong puck movement by the Shark defencemen, hard fore-checking & strong puck control down low by the forwards, and a few key saves by the goalies illustrated good work ethics for the team to build on, in preparation for the upcoming tournaments.

The organization's scouting staff and the coaching staff are in the final stages of firming up the 2010 Ice Shark roster.  Building off a good showing at last year's tournaments, this year's team will look to improve on a 2nd place finish at the Regional Express tournament & 3rd place at the North Shore Bluewater tournament.  Further information and schedules will be posted soon.
